In Spring of 2022, Daniyal Robinson was named Head Coach of Cleveland State Men's Basketball. Since Coach Robinson assumed his position, he has instilled a culture focused on Humility, Excellence, Accountability, Relentlessness, and Togetherness. In conjunction with Cleveland State University, Coach Robinson now wants to offer the ability for young student-athletes to experience what that culture represents, and what it means to be a Cleveland State Viking.
A former college student-athlete himself, Coach Robinson has a unique way of connecting with student-athletes by understanding each individual’s background and what they need to be successful. Robinson started his college journey at Indian Hills Community College, playing out 2 season for the Warriors. Following his time with Indian Hills, Robinson was recruited to Arkansas Little-Rock and played out the remainder of his college career for the Trojans.
Following his playing days, Robinson began his illustrious coaching career by sticking around at Arkansas Little-Rock under well renowned, Coach Porter Moser. From there, Coach Robinson had successful stops with Illinois State, Iowa State, Houston, and Loyola Chicago over 22-year span as an Assistant Coach.
Following Coach Robinson’s appointment with Cleveland State University, Robinson continued and further built upon the recent success the Vikings had under predecessor, Dennis Gates. In his first season, Cleveland State achieved 21 Wins, the most for any first-year Head Coach in school history. In the same season, 3 student-athletes were honored and recognized as All-Conference players (D. Parker, D. Johnson, T. Enaruna).
By offering camps at Cleveland State, Robinson hopes to share the energy and passion that athletes and coaches bring every day with the youth and aspiring college athletes.
